  49. The Intel« INF Installation Utility installs to 
  50. the target system the Windows* INF files that outline to 
  51. the operating system how the chipset components shall be 
  52. configured.  This is needed for proper functionality of the 
  53. following features:
  54.  
  55.    - Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
  56.    - AGP Support
  57.    - IDE/ATA33/ATA66 Storage Support
  58.    - USB Support
  59.    - Identification of Intel Chipset Components in 
  60.      Device Manager
  61.  
  62. Files for Windows 98 operating system and files for
  63. Windows 95 operating system are included in this 
  64. software package.  The files for Windows 95 are designed to 
  65. work solely with Windows 95 (all versions).  The files for 
  66. Windows 98 are designed to work solely with Windows 98.

  73. The Intel« INF Installation Utility package contains the

  143. 1.  The system must contain one of the following Intel

  157. 2.  The one of the following operating systems must be 
  158.     installed on the system:

  161.     Windows 95      4.00.950a  (OSR1)
  162.     Windows 95      4.00.950b  (OSR2 without USB 
  163.                                 Supplement)

  172. 3.  This software has been designed solely for systems 
  173.     running Windows 95 or Windows 98 with one of the 
  174.     above Intel« chipsets.   
  175.  
  176. 4.  It is recommended that the kit software be installed on 
  177.     systems with at least 32MB of system memory.
  178.  
  179. 5.  It is recommended that there is sufficient hard disk 
  180.     space in the <TEMP> directory (typically 
  181.     C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) on the system to install this software.
  182.  
  183.  
  184. Please check with your system provider to determine which 
  185. operating system and Intel« chipset are used in your system.

  190. * 4.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
  191. ************************************************************
  192.  
  193. 1.  Check the System Requirements.  Windows 95 or Windows 98 
  194.     must be fully installed and running on the system prior 
  195.     to running this software.
  196.  
  197. 2.  Close any running applications.  You may experience some
  198.     difficulties if you don't do this.
  199.  
  200. 3.  Un-zip the InstallShield* installation program files 
  201.     into a temporary directory.
  202.  
  203. 4.  Run the InstallShield installation program, SETUP.EXE.
  204.  
  205. 5.  You will be prompted to agree to the license agreement.  
  206.     If you do not agree, the Installer will exit prior to 
  207.     extracting any files.
  208.     
  209. 6.  The README.TXT file will be copied to the directory
  210.           C:\Program Files\Intel\InfInst 
  211.     by default.  If desired, change the target directory by 
  212.     selecting 'Browse.'  This directory will henceforth be 
  213.     referred to as <INF Installation Directory>
  214.  
  215. 7.  Follow the screen instructions and use default settings 
  216.     to complete the setup once the operating system has 
  217.     rebooted.
  218.  
  219. 8.  At this point, the installation of the Intel« INF 
  220.     Installation Utility is complete.

  225. * 5.  VERIFYING INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE
  226. ************************************************************

  228. NOTE:  This procedure is common to both Windows 95 and 
  229. Windows 98 systems.
  230.  
  231. Run Device Manager to verify correct installation and usage 
  232. of the INF files.
  233.  
  234. 1.  Click on Start
  235. 2.  Select Settings
  236. 3.  Select Control Panel
  237. 4.  Double click on System icon
  238. 5.  Click on Device Manager tab
  239. 6.  Click on View Devices by Connection button
  240. 7.  Click on Plug and Play BIOS
  241. 8.  Click on PCI
  242. 9.  Check the descriptions for the following entries:

  244. *** NOTE:  If you see PCI standard ISA bridge you will need 
  245.            restart your system and re-run the software.

  316. * 6.  IDENTIFYING THE SOFTWARE VERSION NUMBER
  317. ************************************************************
  318. The version of the software included in the distribution
  319. package is specified in the file, RELNOTES.TXT.

  324. * 7.  TROUBLESHOOTING
  325. ************************************************************
  326. It is assumed that the system requirements from Section 3 
  327. above have been satisfied.
  328.  
  329.  
  330. Issue:      System locks up during Device Manager Remove or 
  331.             during restart.
  332.  
  333. Solution:   System lockup can occur during Restart as a 
  334.             result of several possible system issues.  In 
  335.             the event of system lockup, restart the machine 
  336.             and view Device Manager.  If devices are listed 
  337.             properly and system experiences no further 
  338.             problems, then .INF file restore process was 
  339.             successful.  If devices are not configured 
  340.             correctly try re-running the procedures outlined 
  341.             in Section 4.
  342.  
  343.             If this does not fix problems or further 
  344.             problems are experienced, re-install the 
  345.             operating system.
  346.  
  347.  
  348. Issue:      After running the setup program and rebooting the
  349.             machine, Windows claims that it cannot find one 
  350.             of the following files:
  351.                   ESDI_506.pdr
  352.  
  353. Solution:   Click Browse in the dialog box where this problem
  354.             occurs and locate the
  355.                   <Windows>\System\IOSubsys
  356.  
  357.             directory and click OK.  The system should
  358.             be able to locate this file in this directory 
  359.             and continue re-enumerating for the new devices.
  360.  
  361.  
  362. Issue:      After running the setup program and rebooting the
  363.             machine, Windows claims that it cannot find one 
  364.             of the following files:
  365.  
  366.                   UHCD.SYS
  367.                   USBD.SYS
  368.                   USBHUB.SYS
  369.  
  370. Solution:   Click Browse in the dialog box where this problem
  371.             occurs and locate the
  372.                   <Windows>\System32\drivers
  373.  
  374.             directory and click OK.  The system should
  375.             be able to locate this file in this directory 
  376.             and continue re-enumerating for the new devices.
